SAGA, Japan — A professional baseball club stocked with Southeast Asian players, who make up around 70% of the team, has taken the field, competing in an independent league on the southwestern Japanese island of Kyushu.
The Saga Indonesia Dreams, based in Saga prefecture in northern Kyushu, is a unique team consisting mainly of top players from Southeast and South Asia, including members of the Indonesian national baseball team. The club has 23 players from five countries — 12 from Indonesia, four from Sri Lanka, four from the Philippines, one from Singapore and three from Japan.
